I'm sorry, I forgot I had packed that.
I wasn't aware of that rule.

I'd like to rent a car please.
OK, how long do you need it for?
I'll need it for about a week.
What kind of car would you like?

Please have the car back by one o'clock next Tuesday.
It has a full tank of gas.
Please return it with the same.
OK, we'll see you back here in a week!

I just got in a wreck on the way over here.
I had a fender-bender coming home from work.
I'm so sorry! Was everyone allright?
No one got hurt, but my car's pretty banged up.
I got T-boned going through an intersection.
This guy pulled into my lane and side-swiped me.
He totally came out of nowhere!
Then he didn't even have insurance!
I got his plate number, so I guess I'll see him in court.
Do you know a trustworthy mechanic?
Do you know a good body shop?
I know a great mechanic that won't try to scam you.
He's very knowledgeable with cars like yours.
Would it be at all possible for me to borrow your car?
I promise I'll be really careful.
I swear I won't talk on the phone while I drive.
Alright, I guess you can borrow my car.
But you'd better not mess it up!
You'd better return it without a scratch!
Chill out, it'll be fine. I'm a great driver!

I just love coming to these games!
Any way I can show support for my Billy.
Kids these days really need a lot of support.
These team sports really build their confidence.
I can't wait for this game!
I think it's gonna be a good one.
We're playing the Long Beach Bear Cubs!
They're our rivals, right?
Oh yeah, big time!
Oh we missed the kickoff.
The Cubs have the ball!
Way to go Cubs!
Look, that kid just kicked my Billy!
That's allright, Billy, get it back!
Stay strong, just ignore him!
Hey ref, number twelve kicked my boy!
Aren't you gonna call a foul?
I can't believe it! Is this ref blind or something?
Hey way to play fair Bear Cubs!
That was a knockout game kids!
You all played your little hearts out!
We'll get those Bear Cubs next time!
Everyone hop in the Suburban, let's go out for pizza!

Could you help me with this?
Could you do me a huge favor?
Is there any way you could help me with this?
I know you're really busy, but I'd love your help with this.
I could really use your help if you don't mind.
Would you mind covering my shift tomorrow?
I swear I'll make it up to you.
I would really appreciate if you could do this for me.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it.

What makes you feel better or worse?
Taking painkillers makes me feel a little better.
I try to avoid dairy because it makes my stomach hurt.
I think stress really makes my symptoms worse.
How severe are the symptoms?
On a scale from one to ten, how severe is the pain?
I haven't been able to go to work.
My symptoms have been affecting my home life.
I'm going to run a few tests.
Bring this swab to the lab for analysis.
I'll call you in a week with the test results.

I'm starving, let's stop for a burger!
There's a Rafiburger right around the block.

Are you religious?
Yeah, I'm Catholic.
Are you a practicing Catholic?
I go to mass twice a week.
I try to go to confession as much as possible.
My mom converted, so now we're Jewish.
We go to Shabbat dinner every Friday.
After that we go to temple.
I'm Muslim.
I'm fasting right now for Ramadan.
On Fridays I go to the mosque.
What religion are you?
My family's Presbyterian, that's a kind of Christian.
We always went to church every Sunday.
After church I'd go to Sunday school.
I still read the Bible every night.
I was raised Episcopalian, but I'm not very religious.
I believe in God, but I don't go to church.
I think it's just important to do good things.
I think the Bible teaches good lessons.
But I don't take it literally.
I'm not religious, but I'm spiritual.
I don't believe in organized religion.
I have a very personal relationship with God.
I pray in my own way.
Do you consider yourself a spiritual person?
Not really, I'm agnostic.
So you don't believe in God at all?
No, that's atheists.
Agnostics believe we can never know one way or the other.

Excuse me, where would I find shampoo please?
Lame! My favorite shampoo isn't on sale this week.
I guess I'll try this one with shine enhancers.
I need some deodorant and body wash too.
Excuse me, where's the dairy aisle please?
I need to pick up a gallon of milk.
I buy organic even though it costs more.
We always drank one percent milk in my family, so it's my favorite.
Skim is too watery, and whole tastes just like cream.
This milk's expired already, that's disgusting!
Could you tell me where the meat counter is please?
I need to grab some chicken breasts and ground beef.
I need one pound of chicken breasts and one and a half pounds of beef.
Is your chicken free-range and raised locally?
Buying locally-grown food is better for the environment.
Where's the frozen food section please?
Sweet! Manzanno pizzas are two for eight dollars this week.
At that price I can really stock up on them.
Are you a Club member sir?
Would you like to join our Rewards Club?
You'll get a discount starting today!
If you lose your card, you can just use your phone number.
Would you like paper or plastic?
Neither, I brought my own eco-friendly reusable bags!
I can help sack the groceries, I don't mind!

Excuse me, do you know how to get to the Hotel Alelo by any chance?
Do you know how I might get to the Hotel Alelo?
Oh sure, you're not far at all!
You're only a few minutes away.
Turn right at the next light, and you'll be headed north.
You're gonna wanna stay on that street.
You wanna keep going on that street for a while.
You're gonna go north for a little ways.
Then the easiest thing is to take the freeway.
You're gonna wanna go east on it.
There's an entrance on Empire Ave.
So when you hit that street, you wanna take a right.
After about a block you should see the freeway entrance.
Watch out, cause it can be hard to make out at night.
Once you're on the freeway you just stay on it for a while.
I'd say it's about four miles.
The exit you wanna take is called Lincoln.
Watch out for it, cause if you miss it, it's hard to get back.
So exit on Lincoln, and then take a left.
As soon as you exit, turn left right off the bat.
Then you just stay on Lincoln the rest of the way.
You'll keep going on Lincoln about a mile or so.
Then you'll see the hotel on your right.
It's a big yellow building, you can't miss it.
Thank you so much, have a nice day!

What are the steps involved in getting a US driver's license?
First of all, you should know that driving laws vary state to state.
The way it works in one state isn't necessarily true for another.
In most states, your home country license is valid until it expires.
In most states, you can drive legally with a current foreign license.
Always check out a state's driving laws before driving there.
You'll have to demonstrate good defensive driving techniques to get a license.
It's important to never follow too close.
You should always leave two car lengths between you and the car in front of you.
Always check your blind spot before changing lanes.
Never change lanes without looking around first.
Keep both hands on the wheel at ten and two.
Try to avoid distractions such as eating and putting on makeup.
Talking on your cell phone is a big distraction!
Texting while driving is extremely dangerous too.
Safe drivers avoid all distractions.
Watch out for drunk drivers, especially at night!
If you see someone swerving across the road, they're probably impaired.
It's best to stay behind drunk drivers, and out of their way.
If you see someone driving erratically, always call 911 right away.

I've been trying to sell this bike online but I haven't gotten many responses to my ad.
How long ago did you post the ad?
I posted it a few weeks ago, maybe I should upload some pictures.
I always put up pics with my ads and I get a lot of responses.
What kind of stuff have you sold on here in the past?
I sold my old couch which was great because the guy came to pick it up.
I wanted to sell my bike online because so many different people log on to this site.
Don't put all your eggs in one basket though...
...because people can be really flaky.
Why do you want to get rid of your bike anyway?
I don't ride it much anymore but it's still in really good condition.
What's your asking price for such a nice bike?
In the ad I put three-hundred dollars but I might go lower if they're willing to pick the bike up.
Let's upload some pics right now and repost your ad.
I think a lot more people will be interested when they see your bike
You should point out its striking color scheme in your posting description.
Maybe we shouldn't overdo it with the description, the bike is grey.
Look, you have a couple new emails from interested parties already.
That's weird, this guy lives in Utah and wants to buy the bike.
He must've clicked on the wrong link.
If the price is right maybe he'll drive out here to get the bike.
I dunno, it seems like a scam since he's so far away.
He might try to get me to ship the bike all the way to Utah but not pay me.
Here's another interested party who lives pretty close.
I'll give her a call as soon as I know when I can show her the bike.

What do you think of America?
How do you like America?
I like how friendly the people are.
I like the fact that American people are so friendly.
I like the fact that America is so diverse.
I like the diversity.
I like that there are people from every walk of life.
What was the best part about moving?
It was great to be able to start over.
It was nice having a fresh start.
Do you ever get homesick?
I get homesick from time to time.
Every now and then I get homesick.
What do you miss?
I miss my family.
At first I missed the food.
I miss my hometown.
My hometown will always have a special place in my heart.
Sometimes I feel out of my comfort zone.
Every now and then I feel out of my element.
What was the hardest thing about moving?
What did you have a hard time with?
When I first moved I had a hard time adjusting to the culture.
I had a hard time getting used to my new life.
The hardest part about moving was dealing with the homesickness.
It was hard dealing with the culture shock.

I'm thinking of moving to the States within the next six months.
People say the West Coast is nice, where do you wanna end up?
I actually have some family in Virginia so I might like the East Coast better.
If you like big cities I hear New York is the best.
I love Broadway musicals so I think I'd like living there.
If I were moving to America I think I'd try for the South.
You'd like it there because the people are really friendly.
Of course it'll all depend on my job situation.
I hear the American government is buckling down on pollution.
I hope my company doesn't relocate because I really like city life.
I think your company will stay put.
I hope I can provide better for my family in the US.
Do you think the standard of living there is a lot better?
I think there's a lot of opportunity over there to get ahead.
It's hard work starting from scratch in a new country.
I wanna try to get settled before my daughter is old enough to start school.
It'll be hard for her to leave her friends here if she's just started school.
It wouldn't be good to move her around so much.
It'll be better to find a house near a good school and stay put.
I already have some connections so I hope that'll give me an edge.
I can always work in the store that my uncle owns if this job doesn't work out.
That's great that you have another plan to fall back on.
I'm hoping everything will fall into place once I get there.

I had a good first impression when I first arrived here.
What would you say was your first impression of America?
What stood out to you about the country and the people?
What cultural norms and values were new to you?
When I first came to America, I noticed that everything seemed so spaced out.
My initial impression of America was that everything was really spread out.
When I first got here, the country struck me as being really large and spread out.
Relationships seem to be much more casual than I'm used to.
People in America seem to dress more casually than in my country.
Women are comfortable with showing more skin here.
Everything seemed like it was spread out.
Americans tend to be more casual about business relationships.
In general, I would say people tend to be friendly and casual.
On the whole, people seem to dress more casually than people in my country.
Americans seem to value privacy more than other cultures.
I've noticed that Americans like to have time to themselves.
Some Americans like to keep people they don't know at arm's length.
In general, Americans have a strong work ethic.
Americans work much longer hours than I'm used to.
Americans tend to work hard and play hard.
I've noticed that Americans really value punctuality and like to be on time.
Time is money.
American culture is one where "time is money," so people are more punctual.
In my country, people are less time-conscious. Americans are more punctual.

I'm getting pretty sick of people stereotyping me.
It prevents them from getting to know the real me.
They should get to know who I am as an individual.
I'm sick of being judged based on how I look.
You're right, it's a huge problem.
Especially in places that aren't very diverse.
People just assume you fit the stereotype.
They judge you before they get to know you.
What kind of stereotypes have you had to deal with?
Well people always cheat off me in school.
They think all Asians are smart and study hard.
I try to explain it's a cultural thing.
It has nothing at all to do with intelligence.
Do you have to deal with a lot of stereotypes as an Iranian?
Yeah, people always ask me where my BMW is.
They think it's funny, but I think it's really insulting.
I tell them we weren't all born with a silver spoon in our mouth.
Most of us have worked really hard to get where we are.
I guess it's just a matter of showing people the reality.
Everyone is different, no matter what their ethnicity.
Everyone should make an effort to get to know people instead of judging them.
Realistically, nobody can help thinking in terms of stereotypes.
The problem is if you actually apply them to people you meet.
You just can't judge a book by its cover!

How would you describe yourself?
How would you describe your living style?
How would you describe your lifestyle?
What kind of housemate would you say you are?
I'd say I'm fairly social and open to making new friends.
Most people I meet describe me as outgoing.
If you could live with anyone in the world, who would you choose and why?
How would you describe your ideal housemate?
What would you consider an ideal living situation?
Who would you live with in an ideal world?
If I could live with anyone in the world, I'd choose someone who is social but drama-free.
My ideal housemate would be someone who is laid-back and drama-free.
I'd rather live with someone who is less social but laid-back than someone who is outgoing and a total drama queen.
What would you say is your biggest pet peeve?
What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to housemates?
I always try to avoid living with couch potatoes.
I hate living with couch potatoes because they never pull their weight around the house.
Nothing gets on my nerves more than having to live with party animals.
It gets on my nerves when they bring over all these random people.
I hate living with mooches who ask you to pay for everything.
My pet peeve is when housemates always mooch off me and eat all my food.
